amount allocated to libraries (PLF) does not go below 2017 levels. State funding for public libraries through the PLF makes up 49% of the total funding for Ohio’s public libraries. Ohio’s public libraries have the highest use per capita in the nation. With nearly 4 out of 5 Ohio resi- dents being a registered library user. I believe that our concerns were heard by Senator Randy Gardner and Representative The- resa Gavarone, but I also don’t think this is the end of the fight to protect library funding at its current levels. I will publish up- dates as available. - Jeannine Wilbarger, DIrector In late March, I attended as part of a group of Wood County Library Directors, the annual Ohio Library Council Legislation Day in Columbus at the Ohio Statehouse. Each year, the OLC encour- ages library representatives to take part and lobby to our legislators the need to main- tain strong funding for public libraries. This year is more important than most as Gov- ernor John Kasich is propos- ing to reduce the percentage that public libraries receive from the General revenue Fund from 1.7 to 1.6 6%. While this amount may seem negligible, it actually repre- sents 7 million dollars in li- brary distribution. Libraries are also asking our legislators to vote to hold libraries harmless from further reduc- tion by assuring that even if the overall General Revenue Fund is reduced, the dollar The 2017 Summer Reading Club is upon us. This year’s theme is “Build A Better World” and focuses on both Construction and Global consciousness. The Rossford Public Library participates in the national Collaborative Summer Library Program which sets the theme for libraries throughout the US. There is a Summer Reading Club for everyone. While most people initially think of the children’s program, there is also a club for teens as well as adults. Stop by to learn more about what we have to offer and check out our list of children’s and family programs inside this issue.
